Why are we doing this

Sage IT Student Scholarship Competition 2026

Sage IT is pleased to announce the next edition of its Student Scholarship Article Writing Competition, a twice-yearly initiative that invites undergraduate students to engage seriously with the technological forces reshaping careers, industries, and society.

This edition focuses on Artificial Intelligence – not as an abstract concept, but as a practical reality that is already changing how work gets done and what early careers look like. We designed this competition to help students move beyond observation and into action: to think clearly about the future they are entering and the role they intend to play within it.

Congratulations!  Congratulation

The Theme of the Topic

For most of the past decade, conversations about AI have centered on what it can do. That question, while still relevant, is no longer the most useful one for someone about to enter the workforce.

AI is already performing tasks that once formed the foundation of early professional development. Research, data analysis, coding, drafting, and decision support are all areas where AI systems are now contributing meaningfully. For students graduating in the next few years, this creates a concrete and immediate challenge: if AI handles more of the execution, what does your contribution look like?

This competition invites students to engage with that challenge directly. The central question is not about capability. It is about accountability.

What will you choose to be responsible for in a world where AI can do much of the work?

What we are Looking for

Strong submissions will go well beyond surface-level commentary on AI trends. We are looking for students who can think independently, reason under uncertainty, and connect ideas to real-world situations.

Specifically, competitive entries will:

  • Demonstrate a grounded understanding of how AI is affecting work today, particularly at the entry and early-career level

  • Reflect honestly on how traditional learning-by-doing career paths are being disrupted

  • Identify where human judgment, accountability, and decision-making remain not just useful but essential

  • Present a personal strategy that is realistic, specific, and stress-tested — including an honest assessment of where that strategy could fall short

  • Apply thinking to concrete, real-world scenarios rather than remaining at the level of abstraction

This is an opportunity to show not only what you know, but how you think and how clearly you can take ownership of an uncertain future.

The winner will receive a scholarship of INR 50, 000 from Sage IT. The winner will receive a scholarship of INR 50, 000 from Sage IT. The winner will receive a scholarship of INR 50, 000 from Sage IT. The winner will receive a scholarship of INR 50, 000 from Sage IT.

Submission Requirements

Participants must submit an original essay or article that engages substantively with the competition theme.

Format and length: Written essay or article, between 1,500 and 2,500 words.

Mandatory applied scenario: Every submission must include at least one real-world scenario in a field of the student’s choosing where AI is already influencing how work is done.

This scenario must clearly address:

  • What does the AI system do in that context

  • What humans are still required to do

  • Where responsibility sits when things go wrong

  • How decisions should be made in practice

This requirement exists to ensure that submissions are grounded in reality, not just well-argued in theory.

Research Citations

Participants are expected to support factual claims with credible, verifiable sources.

  • Citations are required for data points, industry statistics, and assertions about AI capabilities or limitations

  • Citations are not required for personal analysis, arguments, or viewpoints

  • Sources should be cited consistently using any standard academic referencing format

Evaluation Criteria

Who can Participate

Know Your Eligibility
  • Currently enrolled college students at any recognized colleges or universities in the Indian states and Union Territories

  • Open to students across all disciplines and fields of study

  • Open to domestic and international students

  • Individual submissions only – group entries are not accepted

  • There is no entry fee

Students from non-technical backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. The competition is designed to reward the quality of thinking, not familiarity with AI systems specifically.

Why Participate

Beyond the scholarship itself, this competition is structured to give students something more durable: a clearer sense of how to position themselves in a world that is changing faster than most career advice accounts for.

Participants who engage seriously with the brief will come away with a more honest understanding of the forces shaping their field, a more specific and pressure-tested view of their own strengths, and a framework for thinking about accountability and judgment that will serve them well regardless of how AI continues to develop.

A Note from Sage IT

We started this competition because we believe the most important question facing the current generation of professionals is not a technical one. It is a question of intention.

At Sage IT, we work at the intersection of technology and human judgment every day.

What we have learned is that the students and professionals who thrive alongside AI are not necessarily those who understand it best. They are the ones who are clearest about what they are there to do, and why it matters.

We look forward to reading your thoughts.
